Work out the loading position before the moving day.
For a Glenroy house, unit or apartment, show us the route from each large item to the truck. A shared driveway may leave less room for loading than a map suggests. Include the garage, outdoor storage and packed cartons in the inventory.
Check whether a service permit fits your street
Merri-bek offers service permits for removalists working at a resident’s property. They cover eligible green-signed parking limits of one hour or more on that street, but do not override clearways, no-stopping areas or loading zones.
The resident can apply; a provider applying needs the resident’s written consent. The application also needs evidence of the service, such as a quote showing the dates. Confirm eligibility and the actual truck’s loading position with the council before the move.

Measure the full carrying route
Send photos of the driveway entrance, steps, gate and front door. For a shared entrance, ask about access arrangements and keep other residents’ access in the plan. Tell us the distance from the proposed loading point to the door, rather than assuming the truck can enter.
Measure the narrowest door or turn for sofas, fridges and large cabinets. List beds, tables or shelving that may need dismantling so the work can be included in the quote.

Ask for lift dimensions, moving hours and any booking or protection requirements. If stairs are involved, note the flights, landings and tight turns. Include balcony and storage-cage items in the load; a bedroom count alone misses them.

Standard local move: two movers and one truck at $185.00 per hour including GST. Two-hour working minimum ($370.00), plus one flat 30-minute return / call-out fee of $92.50 including GST: minimum total $462.50. Work after the minimum is rounded up to 15-minute blocks ($46.25 each). Working time includes loading, driving between the addresses and unloading. Additional services and tolls require a separate agreed charge.
The inventory, crew, date, both addresses and access determine the proposed scope. A longer carry, stairs, dismantling or an extra stop can change the time needed. Ask for the working minimum, travel and extras in writing.
