A bedroom count gives a starting point, but it leaves out cartons, garages, outdoor furniture and bulky items. An inventory or photos let the team assess what needs to fit in the truck.
At both addresses, tell us whether there are stairs, lifts, loading bays, restricted parking or a long walk from the truck. Building booking windows and settlement times matter as well.

One move can involve two different loading plans.
A city apartment, a northern-suburbs unit and an outer-suburbs house can need different preparations. Check the council and the building rules for each address before agreeing to a narrow moving window.
City apartments and loading bays
For a City of Melbourne address, check whether reserved street parking is needed. The council’s application asks for the location and enough bays for the vehicle; its conditions exclude clearways and other restricted locations. Confirm current requirements before applying.
Separately, ask the building manager for dock height, lift dimensions, protection requirements and the booked moving window. A street permit does not reserve a building’s lift.

For a Glenroy unit or house, start with the closest lawful truck position and the path through any shared driveway. Photograph the entrance, steps and tight turns so the handling plan reflects the property.

What is actually going?
List furniture, appliances and cartons, including the shed, garage and balcony. Note pianos, heavy pieces or items that need dismantling.

Can a truck reach both doors?
Describe stairs, lift bookings, loading bays, parking restrictions and the carry distance at pickup and delivery.

Are there extra stops or storage?
Give each delivery suburb, the storage duration and the expected redelivery window so they can be included in the scope.

What time is available?
Share the preferred date, settlement or key handover, and any building access hours. A requested date is not a confirmed booking.

Before you accept a quote, check whether it is hourly or fixed, the minimum time and billing increments, when travel is charged, and whether packing materials, stairs, extra stops, storage and GST are included.

Weekday local moves
How AA’s standard local rate works
Standard local move: two movers and one truck at $185.00 per hour including GST. Two-hour working minimum ($370.00), plus one flat 30-minute return / call-out fee of $92.50 including GST: minimum total $462.50. Work after the minimum is rounded up to 15-minute blocks ($46.25 each). Working time includes loading, driving between the addresses and unloading. Additional services and tolls require a separate agreed charge.
Tell us both addresses and all access restrictions. The final written quote confirms travel, minimum time and any services beyond the standard crew and truck.
